BWise Manufacturing’s recent purchase allows it to keep its commitment to its home town. CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — As BWise Manufacturing prepared for growth, company leaders didn’t want to search far and wide for a facility. Middletown Valley Bank plans second branch in Hagerstown

Middletown Valley Bank recently announced its commitment to opening a second branch in Hagerstown, Md. Plans are underway to open the new full-service branch at 13415 Pennsylvania Ave. in the second half of 2018, according to a news release. MVB plans to build a facility of 1,500 square feet to 1,800 square feet, outfitted to its existing brand and image. The new branch will bring additional jobs to the area and feature a drive-up ATM and two drive-through lanes. Registers will be ringing: Retailers group predicts holiday sales to rise up to 4 percent. Is the Crossroads area ready?

Holiday shoppers say they’ll spend an average of $967.13 this year and, for the first time, most chose online as their top shopping spot. But many also said they will still hit department stores, discount stores and other brick-and-mortar outlets. Those results come from reports by Ana Serafin Smith on the National Retail Federation website. And they have been anticipated by some retailers doing business in the Crossroads area. As a youngster, Lora Tolley shopped at the J.C. Penney store. Now she runs it. Tolley grew up in Berkeley Springs W.Va. She attended Shepherd University for 3.5 years and transferred to Concord University for the remainder of her education. She met her husband, Russell, while serving a college internship in southern West Virginia. They have been married for 27 years and have two children, Carter, 19, and Kaitlyn, 16.
