Torrid, a clothing and accessories retailer that offers "fashion for sizes 10-30," has opened a store in the Valley Mall in Halfway.
"We’re very excited to be here," store Manager Renee Rutherford said.
"We opened for a couple of hours last night," Rutherford said Tuesday. "I’ve been pretty steady so far today."
The store’s first shoppers were showing interest in a range of apparel and accessories, she said.
"Right now, swimwear is really popular because of the time of the year. … We always sell a lot of denim and intimates. We’re sort of known for that," she said.
Torrid will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand-opening celebration on Saturday.
The store will open at 10 a.m. that day, and gift cards will be given to the first 50 people in line. The amount of the cards will be revealed at the register.
The Valley Mall store, which is between the rue21 and Game Stop stores, employs 13 people, Rutherford said.
"Torrid is a wonderful addition to our family of retailers here at Valley Mall," mall marketing Manager Carrie A. Plezia wrote in an email message. "We are proud of their dedication to their clientele in providing fashionable and trendy clothing and accessories."
Torrid, which offers plus-size clothing and accessories for women and teenage girls, has more than 400 stores across 36 states.
The chain is growing. This month, Torrid also plans to open stores in Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, South Carolina and Tennessee, according to its website.
It is headquartered in City of Industry, Calif., which is part of the greater Los Angeles area.
