Miller becomes global luxury property specialist
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Adam Miller of Coldwell Banker Premier has earned the Coldwell Banker Global LuxurySM Property Specialist designation.
To date, only 10 percent of the more than 91,000 sales associates affiliated with Coldwell Banker have been awarded this designation. The luxury program is a marketing curriculum designed specifically for marketing luxury residential properties. The course provides learning, networking, marketing strategies and mentorship, pairing the experience and first-hand knowledge of successful luxury agents with industry-leading resources.
A graduate of West Virginia University, Miller has been affiliated with Coldwell Banker Premier for four years. He is part of the Miller Team, which includes his mother and fellow Global Luxury Property Specialist Paula Miller, as well as Sales Associate/Transaction Specialist Tiffany Brooks.
Akonni Biosystems appoints Firestone as CFO
FREDERICK, Md. — Akonni Biosystems recently announced the appointment of Lawrence Larry Firestone as executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Akonni is a molecular diagnostics company that develops, manufactures and intends to market advanced molecular diagnostics systems. In a news release, the company said Firestone’s appointment “highlights the company’s continued commitment to executing on its corporate goals of commercialization and significant revenue growth following the recent announcement of our strategic partnership in China.”
With more than 35 years of experience, Firestone has tenures as a CEO, CFO and COO. He has a track record of turnaround and positive transformation in companies ranging from startups to mature, publicly held global companies, including multiple successful initial public offerings.
LeFevre joins Morgan-Keller staff
FREDERICK, Md. — Chris LeFevre has joined the Morgan-Keller Construction team as a business development manager.
LeFevre has more than 15 years experience in commercial and residential construction. His primary focus will be on the expansion of Morgan-Keller’s Northern Virginia market.
Established in 1955, Morgan-Keller Construction is a general contracting and construction management firm with offices in Frederick and Columbia, Md.
GDC appointments Jackson to VP role
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Global Data Consultants LLC, a managed IT solution and staffing technology provider headquartered in Chambersburg, Pa., has appointed Michael E. Jackson to vice president of enterprise solutions.
Jackson brings more than 35 years of academic and professional experience in development, sales and delivery of technical services. His career includes successful execution of senior-level roles (CEO, COO, vice president and director) in operations, sales, marketing and business development on both the client and provider side (domestic and international).
He is focused on expanding GDC’s portfolio of enterprise services and clients by ensuring that GDC offers solutions that deliver measurable value and customer satisfaction.
Prior to joining GDC, Jackson was a director with Dell, vice president of international business development with Convergys, and COO/CEO of eLynxx Solutions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Akron.
An Ohio native, Jackson is a golf enthusiast and lives in Chambersburg with his wife, Nikki, and their three children, Brady, Tanner and Marlee.
Pogue becomes marketing manager at Valley Mall
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Lauren Pogue has been named marketing manager at Valley Mall by mall owner Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust.
She is charged with creating and implementing marketing and public relations programs to increase the shopping center’s visibility and help generate increased sales for its retailers. She will focus on building the social media platforms for the center and building relationships with shoppers through a range of customer services and special events.
Pogue also is committed to partnering with the community on different levels to help sustain and improve the shopping, lifestyle and retail experience for local and regional residents of Hagerstown and beyond.
Currently enrolled at Wilson College, Pogue is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in graphic media while working full-time.
She graduated in December 2016 from Hagerstown Community College with an associate degree in graphic design. Pogue comes to the Valley Mall with a wealth of experience in marketing, advertising, social media and the retail environment. She lives in Hagerstown, Md., with her husband and two pugs.

Morris joins F&M Trust as assistant vice president
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — F&M Trust recently hired Casey Morris as assistant vice president/commercial services relationship manager.
Morris will be responsible for business development within the local market area as well as managing existing commercial relationships.
He was most recently an owner/consultant for Endurance Strategies and part-owner and director of business development for Encore Ventures LLC. Previously, Morris served as assistant vice president/commercial relationship manager with BB&T (formerly Susquehanna Bancshares Inc.) from 2012-2016.
Morris holds a master’s degree in business administration from Frostburg State University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park.
He lives in Hagerstown, Md. A graduate of Leadership Washington County, he has volunteered with the Humane Society of Washington County.
Morris will be based in the bank’s Memorial Square office at 20 S. Main St., Chambersburg.

Professor selected as Fulbright Scholar to Russia
EMMITSBURG, Md. — Patrice Flynn, a professor of business and economics and the Morrison Professor of International Studies at Mount St. Mary’s University, has been selected by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board of the U.S. Department of State to be a Fulbright U.S. Scholar to Russia.
Flynn will spend the spring 2019 semester on the campus of South Ural State University, a national research university along the eastern Ural Mountains in Siberia. She will work with Russian scholars to develop teaching materials for their business, finance, economics and management programs. Because private business development is relatively new in Russia, South Ural State University lacks the curriculum to “pass on the business spirit to students and educate a new breed of businessperson” as desired by South Ural administrators, faculty, and students.
Flynn is one of only six scholars nationwide selected for a Fulbright in Russia during the 2018-19 academic year.
Flynn holds a doctorate in economics from University of Texas Austin, a master’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago and a master’s degree on social work from Catholic University of America.
Mount St. Mary’s names Franklin as VP
EMMITTSBURG, Md. — Mount St. Mary’s University has hired Bernard Franklin as vice president for student life, effective Aug. 1.
Franklin currently is special assistant to the president and assistant vice president for student life at Kansas State University.
At Mount St. Mary’s, he will serve as the leader of the student life division. Franklin also has experience in supporting students of color and first-generation students in successfully navigating college, a strength that will benefit the increasing number of students from underrepresented populations at the Mount. In academic year 2018-19, students of color are projected to make up 42 percent of the freshman class, up from 25 percent in 2013-14.
Earlier in his career, Franklin served as president of Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley and of Junior Achievement of Middle America. As assistant to the president at Donnelly College, he was responsible for the strategic planning of the urban Catholic two-year college.
Franklin holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a doctorate in counseling and higher education administration from Kansas State University, and a master’s degree in counseling and behavioral studies from the University of South Alabama.
Frostburg names Wyden to VP post
FROSTBURG, Md. — Frostburg State University President Ronald Nowaczyk has named Leon Wyden as FSU’s new vice president of Administration and Finance.
Wyden, a CPA, comes to FSU from the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. He brings experience working in financial management positions in higher education, in the manufacturing and supply industries and in financial auditing.
Frostburg’s Division of Administration and Finance encompasses 21 departments.
WVU Medicine welcomes surgeon
RANSON, W.Va. — WVU Medicine Jefferson Medical Center and University Healthcare Physicians announce the addition of Dr. Kevin Hibbett, a general surgeon, to WVU Medicine Surgery – Jefferson in Ranson.
Hibbett received a medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in general surgery and chief surgical residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa. Prior to joining WVU Medicine, he practiced at Reedsburg Area Medical Center in Reedsburg, Wisc. He has held positions in various medical practices since 2001.

U.S. Silica appoints Miers
FREDERICK, Md. — U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. recently appointed Daniel Miers to be president of its wholly-owned subsidiary, SandBox Logistics.
Miers succeeds former SandBox founder and President Josh Oren, according to a news release. Oren has agreed to stay on until the end of the year as a consultant to support Miers in the transition.
Miers will join the company’s extended leadership team and report to Brad Casper, executive vice president and chief commercial officer.
Miers served most recently as the chief operating officer for Gulfstream Services, a supplier of tools and services to the oil and gas industry. He previously worked in various positions of increasing responsibility at Key Energy Services.
Anderson joins photographers’ council
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Melanie Anderson of Anderson Photographs in Hagerstown, Md., has been elected to the Professional Photographers of America Council for 2018-2021.
A nonprofit international association with more than 30,000 members, PPA is governed by its members through such council representatives.
PPA councilors are professional photographers who volunteer their time and service to guide and act as the voice for their state’s PPA members. Duties include discussing and voting on changes to the bylaws and the leadership of the association. Councilors also play a crucial role in sharing the PPA message to existing, new and prospective PPA members in their state.
Anderson is the current chairwoman and former president of the Maryland Professional Photographer’s Association.
Kifer joins Insurance Brokers of Maryland
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Patrice S. Kifer, a property and casualty insurance agent, has joined the staff at Insurance Brokers of Maryland – Hagerstown.
Kifer has 28 years of insurance experience in both commercial and personal lines. She has been a top producer in State Auto’s Pace Setter Program.
Kifer serves on the church council at St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.
Schroyer named VP, CIO at Brethern Mutual
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — The Brethren Mutual Insurance Co. recently named Robin Schroyer to be vice president of information services and chief information officer.
Schroyer joined Brethren Mutual in 1988. One year later, she was named the company’s first programming manager. In 2015, Schroyer was promoted to information services manager.
In her new role, Schroyer oversees Brethren Mutual’s operations, programming and quality assurance areas of Information Services.
Schroyer is a 1985 graduate of Shippensburg (Pa.) University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
She lives in Waynesboro, Pa.
Established in 1897, Brethren Mutual is headquartered in Hagerstown, Md., and writes personal, commercial and farm business in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia through independent insurance agents.

CNB Bank salutes graduates
Two CNB Bank staff members recently completed training programs.
Karen Richards graduated from Barret Graduate School of Banking in Memphis, Tenn. The 2018 graduating class had 65 students from 23 states. The coursework covers a variety of banking topics, including company culture, marketing, financial analysis, lending, and an advanced bank simulation.
Richards has worked for CNB for 14 years and recently expanded her role from branch manager to assistant vice president in marketing/public relations. She serves on the board of Senior Life Service of Morgan County and of JuMP in the Eastern Panhandle.
Also, Laura Gentile graduated from the Leadership Berkeley program. Leadership Berkeley is a year-long program of the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce. This year’s class had 27 graduates. The program covers areas such as leadership, team building, community culture, education and a trip to Charleston, W.Va., for a module on government.
Gentile has worked for CNB for five years and is a credit analyst in the commercial department. She is active in the Women’s Network and the Wellness Series with Martinsburg-Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce.

Carter becomes bank’s office manager
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. — Jefferson Security Bank has added Misty Carter as the office manager of the downtown Shepherdstown location.
Carter is responsible for managing daily operations and promoting customer service. Carter joins JSB with more than 15 years of local banking experience, serving in many roles including financial services advisor, retail loan officer and branch manager.
A resident of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Carter and her husband, Josh, have two sons; Trevin and Mason.

Volvo makes executive board changes
Volvo Group has announced changes in its senior management team.
Jan Gurander, current deputy CEO and CFO, will continue his work as deputy CEO with the task of leading Volvo’s strategic and operational activities together with President and CEO Martin Lundstedt. Gurander will assume responsibility for a number of the Group’s key challenges and strategic issues.
Jan Ytterberg has been appointed chief financial officer and will become a new member of the executive board. Ytterberg most recently served as chief financial officer of the Swedish company Husqvarna Group and has almost 30 years of experience from the automotive industry from his various positions at truck manufacturer Scania. The date on which Ytterberg will take up his new position had yet to be decided.
In addition, Kerstin Renard, executive vice president group human resources, will step down at the end of the year. The process of recruiting her successor has been initiated.
