Regional wines take top honors in Md. competition

Several wineries in the Crossroads Business Journal region took home honors from the Maryland Comptroller’s Cup Competition.

The top award, best in show, went to Catoctin Breeze Vineyard of Frederick County for its Cabernet Franc 2016. That wine also was named best in class among wineries.

Two Washington County wineries took other best in class awards. Knob Hall Winery received that mark among white wines for its Vidal Blanc 2016. And Cool Ridge Vineyard’s Cool White 2017 was named best in white blend class.

Twenty judges spent nearly six hours evaluating some of Maryland’s finest wines. There are more than 80 wineries in Maryland.
