After more than 50 years of success with print book-focused reading programs, Reading is Fundamental has partnered with d’Vinci Interactive to create a portal of online resources to foster a love of reading and literacy.
The flagship product, Literacy Central, features more than 6,000 literacy resources for educators and parents to use with pre-kindergarten, elementary and middle school students.
Literacy Central won the 2018 Parents’ Choice Silver Award. It includes activities, games, interactive reading passages, lesson plans, and videos paired with classic and popular books — all available for free.
Users can search by theme, grade level or keyword to find their favorite authors and illustrators and then download free resources designed specifically for that book.
Since the launch of Literacy Central six months ago, more than 1,000 educators and parents have created curriculum folders on the site.
Features include a Puzzle Creator Tool, interactive calendars and a mobile app to connect educators with thousands of free resources, just by scanning a book’s barcode. d’Vinci also created tools for teachers and parents to track a student’s reading progress.
This spring, RIF and d’Vinci will launch Literacy Tracker, a tool that will allow teachers and parents to assess their student/child’s reading level, receive recommendations for titles, and watch their improvement throughout the school year. Another new feature will be a RIF Reading Log App, a mobile app that will allow students and parents to keep track of the time they spend reading books and the pages read.
Reading Is Fundamental delivers free books and literacy resources to children and families in underserved communities in the United States. As the nation’s largest children’s literacy nonprofit, RIF has placed 412 million books in the hands of more than 40 million children since it was established in 1966.
D’Vinci Interactive, based in Hagerstown, Md., features a team of learning specialists, creative designers and application developers who collaborate with clients to deliver engaging learning solutions.
D’Vinci also can expand its capabilities and capacity by partnering with its parent company, JPL, a Pennsylvania-based creative marketing agency.
