More light industrial space being developed in Franklin County, Pa.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — By the third quarter of this year, more light industrial space with access to Interstate 81 could be available in Franklin County, Pa. In December, the Franklin County Area Development Corp. closed a deal with the Waynesboro Industrial Development Corp. to buy Lot 7 on Zane A. Miller Drive, according to county records. The price was $100,000 for the parcel, which is in the Wharf Road Industrial Park. Also in December, site work started to build a 20,000 square-foot building on the property. Some Pa. municipalities saying ‘no’ to mini-casinos

More than 1,000 Pennsylvania municipalities, including 20 in Franklin and Fulton counties, have opted out of hosting new mini-casinos. State lawmakers passed the new casino legislation last year in an effort to close Pennsylvania’s nearly $2.3 billion deficit and wrap up the 2017-18 state spending plan. A mini-casino can house 300 to 750 slot machines and as many as 40 table games. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board planned to start auctioning off 10 mini-casino licenses to the state’s 11 largest licensed casinos on Jan. 10. PSU Mont Alto’s LaunchBox opens in Chambersburg

MONT ALTO, Pa. — The Penn State Mont Alto LaunchBox is providing free assistance to aspiring entrepreneurs in downtown Chambersburg, Pa. Funded by a seed grant from the Invent Penn State initiative, the business incubator is at 40 N. Second St. Free services and workshops will be available to any aspiring entrepreneur. Chambersburg area power plant sold

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — As part of a larger deal, FirstEnergy has sold a natural-gas-fired power plant near Chambersburg. The facility is among those being sold to LS Power Equity Partners II LP and its subsidiaries, according to Jennifer Young, a spokeswoman for FirstEnergy. The deal has been in the works for some time and closed in December, according to a Franklin County deed transfer report. FROSTBURG, Md. — Four of Frostburg State University’s online degree programs appear in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings, which were released Jan. 9. FSU’s ranked programs appear on the organization’s lists for master of business administration, graduate nursing, graduate business, graduate education, and bachelor’s.
