The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration plans to improve pavement on several roads and highways in Allegany and Garrett counties.
The work was to start shortly after Labor Day and end before winter.
In Allegany County, SHA’s contractor, Belt Paving Inc. of Cumberland, Md., will patch areas to improve the following roads:
• Interstate 68 (National Freeway) between Md. 144 (Naves Cross Road) and Orleans Road (22.4 miles).
• Md. 53 (Winchester Road) between Alt. U.S. 40 (National Pike) and M. 658 (Vocke Road) (nearly one-mile).
• Md. 51 (Oldtown Road) between Long Farm Road and East Wilson Road, S.E. (4.1 miles).
The improvements, which cost $750,000, are part of a larger $9.7 million contract. The contract, which extends through 2019, includes patching, sealing cracks and resurfacing the roads. SHA is identifying additional roads in the county to improve as part of the contract next year.
