HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Hagerstown Community College dental hygiene instructor Jennifer Suminski recently had her research in oral care published in the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing, Vol. 21, No.3.
In the article titled, “Oral Care: Exploring education, attitudes, and behaviors among nurses caring for patients with breast cancer,” Suminski finds that educating providers comprehensively about prevention, treatment and risk factors of developing oral conditions during anticancer treatments is crucial given the strong associations between educational experiences and actual behavioral engagement with patients.
Suminski is a full-time instructor for HCC’s Dental Hygiene Program. She teaches oral anatomy, pharmacology, pathology, community dentistry, and first year clinic. Additionally, Suminski serves as the president for the Washington/Frederick County Dental Hygienists’ Association, as well as a legislative chairperson for the Maryland Dental Hygienists’ Association.
